How was your year?

It’s almost year end. Only 3 weeks left this year. The holiday season is starting or for some has already started. How was your year?

A more important question is have you started to plan for next year?

Before you get into the holiday swing take a little time and see what you have accomplished this year. What went right and what went wrong.

Take the things you have done wrong. Analyze why it went wrong and make plans to avoid those mistakes. Once you have done that let it go. Hind site is 20-20.

Celebrate the good things and give yourself a pat on the back. Sometimes all we see is what went wrong and never look at what went right. Make a list of what you have accomplished. You might surprise yourself that you have done better than you thought.

Keep that list and review it often.

Finally make your plans for next year. There is an old saying that is said over and over. If you don’t plan you are planning to fail.

Hey, I can’t go out the door here, jump in my car and drive to Florida without some kind of map. Oh, if I keep asking for directions (something old bald guys are not known for doing ;-)) I will probably get there eventually.

How much easier would it be though if I had a map to take me directly there? Would it save me from driving through Arkansas on my way from Pennsylvania? (For those not familiar with US geography driving from Pennsylvania to Florida through Arkansas would more than double my trip length.) Yes I would get there eventually but with many more miles and lots more money spent then would be necessary than if I had a map.

Having a plan will help you reach your goals much quicker. Most of the things that I had on my wrong list were a direct result of lack of planning. How about you?

So take a few minutes before you get into the holiday rush to get ready for next year. It may be some of the best time you spend.
